In addition to function and long-term features of design, people also pay more attention to the social and cultural value of design, people pay more attention on societies and cultural values on design, which made new requirement towards materials, techniques and design concepts. We are aiming to learn more about the possibility of a sustainable future from the perspective of industry practice and the frontier of theory.
Hongbo YI, a native of Liuyang, Hunan province, graduated from Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology in 2002. He used to be a fashion designer in Shanghai and then a magazine editor. He lives and works in Hunan now. In 2013, he set up a handmade fabric brand called SUMMERWOOD, focusing on the promotion and innovation of Liuyang grass cloth.
Gang XU, a designer who spent a lot of time with architectural decorative materials before he founded BENTU in 2011. He concerned about historical and humanistic objects and the relocation of large cities. He believed that "the relocation is for happiness”.
Christoph John， a product designer working as a design partner at the PINWU design studio in Hangzhou. He has a degree in product– furniture design from the University of Applied Arts in Schneeberg (FH) as well as a master degree in car design from the Domus Academy in Milan. His design work is focused on traditional materials and crafts.
