Human civilization began when Prometheus first stole fire, and it was through the use of fire that humanity developed. Now, we have come full circle. Fire now symbolizes humanity’s rational spirit, with which we search for our own origin and significance.
Humanity has such passion and respect for fire that it has transformed from merely a physical thing into a symbol of the rational spirit and emotional experience. In the hands of artists and designers, different elements are reorganized in design. New forms continuously emerge from the combination of various materials, and the artists’ and designers’ unique worldviews are embedded within them.
Curated by Li Rongwei, AN+ latest exhibition invites 19 artists, designers and studios to explore the relationship between fire and the three material elements: metal, ceramics, and glass. Titled “Blazing Element”, the exhibition aims to demonstrate the diversity of interpretations and emotional complexities that emerge from combining these three materials with fire.
