The Shenzhen Design Award for Young Talents 2019 is themed as "Inclusive Design". Designers in the new era can discover new perspectives and create more inclusive designs based on the respect to the diversity of audience. In this year’s SDAY, the jury consists of 7 prominent figures who are prestigeous in their industries. After online and offline judging, 21 individuals/groups were selected from 428 entrants from 19 cities. The Grant Award was given to Emma Strydom from Cape Town, South Africa, a UNESCO Creative City newly recognized in 2019.

“Inclusive Design | SDAY 2019 Excellent Works Exhibition” is an experiment and exploration of young designers about the possibility of improving society with design. Shenzhen Design Award for Young Talents is a major cultural event listed as the "Shenzhen City Culture Menu". It’s an international exchange platform for recognizing outstanding young designers from UNESCO creative cities. Taking this opportunity, Shenzhen gathers awardees and city representatives from global creative cities. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will hold this event of cross-border communication for the first time in the form of online video, to create an environment where design transcends national boundaries, and give the next generation of design community an opportunity to show themselves.

City is the settlement of people. Thousands of individuals come and go, stop, and gather. It is not a prison made of rebar and concrete, but a "flowing" carrier with fresh lives. People are "moving" and emotions are "flowing". Maybe you are just a speck of dust of the city, but your story is the most vivid portrayal of it. There are tens of thousands of people, so why is there only one “city”?

"City Journal" is a collectively made handbook. It invites all our friends from creative cities to talk about your stories of the "city".
